Punjab Is Withered Away By The Worst Inundation In The Recent History

The torrential rains have brought Punjab’s routine to a standstill. The overflowing Ravi River as the result has given rise to ultimate kiosks in the civic life with a worst ever inundation since 1988. The worst affected districts are that of Pathankot, Amritsar, Rupnagar, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Amritsar, Kapurthala and Tarn Taran respectively. It was reported by the nodal agencies of NDRF that water in the Ravi River and reservoirs are already touching the danger levels. 

The life has been on an edge in North Indian state of Punjab, with horrendous figures that are enough to cause bedazzle the imagination.  It is alleged that over 350,000 people have been severely affected by the torrential down pours, and as many as more than 30 people have lost their lives, which also includes at least 1400 villages submerged completely.

In line with the interim assessment made by the state government, the overall monetary loss in terms of monetary terms is more than INR 13,000 crores.  With every passing day, the situation has worsened and the land has transformed into marshes with increasing possibility of water borne diseases.  

The relief and evacuation measures are going on to the full extent and as the result of which around 20,000 people have been removed safely from flood-affected areas. The government agencies have also set up shelter zones with continued supply of the essential facilities provided to the families who have been severely affected.
